ß | from anther to stigma

With the research project ß by the artist Asad Raza and the three-part performance series from anther to stigma in the garden of Kronprinzenpalais, Schinkel Pavillon dedicates the summer of 2021 to an extensive discourse and performance program in response to the current exhibition Sun Rise|Sun Set.

14 scientists and artists will create a theoretical and performative echo of the exhibition’s central themes and ask about alternative attitudes of humans to their non-human environment.

ß, a research project by Asad Raza

How can we enter into a dialogue with our non-human environment? Could alternative forms of action and thinking possibly lead to an  organic consciousness of society within nature? And how can new living practices nourish a more contingent understanding of subjectivity and agency, taking into account the arbitrariness and dependencies of changing conditions on earth?

ß attempts to find possible critical answers critical possibilities to these questions raised in Sun Rise|Sun Set. Via eight conversations with extraordinary scholars, researchers and artists, Asad Raza brings together an online archive that links diverse theoretical approaches – each of which draws its own perspective on the interconnectedness of the human and natural world; re-envisioning terrestrial possibilities of acting-on and being-in the world.

from anther to stigma

For from anther to stigma, Schinkel Pavillon invites 6 artists to develop performative works in the garden of Kronprinzenpalais that use dance, play, sound, ritual and design to move the exhibition Sun Rise | Sun Set outdoors, and catalyze the knowledge collected in ß.

With their live role play The Mycological Twist transforms the garden into a living playground, while Louis A. Krüger & Isabell Schnalle question fashion through organic growth, phonetic experience and transformational design, and Isabel Lewis & Dirk Bell invite plastic decomposing moths as empowered actors in their installation and performance – from anther to stigma opens a performative and sensory space in which the exhibition Sun Rise | Sun Set wanders alongside performers and visitors.
