Alex Baczynski-Jenkins
THE TREMBLE

Staged by DISAPPEARING BERLIN.

Supermarkt an der Jannowitzbrücke
Holzmarktstrasse 66, 10179 Berlin

For DISAPPEARING BERLIN, choreographer Alex Baczynski-Jenkins presents The tremble, the first episode of the work The tremble, the symptom, the swell and the hole together (2017), which unfolds over four episodes and is a choreographic mediation on the relationships between touch, intimacy, loss and collectivity. This iteration of The tremble is presented at a former, long been vacant supermarket at Jannowitzbrücke. With demolition approaching by the end of the year it is just one of many properties that have been giving way to an architecturally generic present and future of the extending Media Spree project.

Baczynski-Jenkins’ choreographies evoke an ephemeral sense of relationality and are suspended between the materiality and fugitivity of an intimate gesture. In The tremble, Baczynski-Jenkins develops vocabularies that range from micro-gestures to poems, social dances and their abstractions. The dancers’ fragmented, yet interconnected movements open up a dialogue across queer politics of desire and intimacy as well as the space they are temporarily situated in.
