The Charlottenburg based Café Keese is one of Berlin’s last, long-established and active dance halls. Ladies’ choice, gentlemen’s choice, desk phones – terms that belong to an everyday experience at the third generation run Café Keese sound rather alien to a younger generation today. It is therefore particularly important to the operators to keep interpreting the original character of the place in a contemporary way. Thus, keeping Café Keese open as a place for young and old to come together and dance. As a dance venue, Café Keese was hit particularly hard by the pandemic-related restrictions and the associated ban on dancing.

DISAPPEARIGN BERLIN brings together the old and the new: a classical piano and cello concert is followed by a long-desired night of dancing. The pianist and composer Hania Rani and the cellist and composer Dobrawa Czocher, both at home in the context of classical music, present their new, not yet released album Inner Symphonies (Deutsche Grammophon). Hania Rani and Dobrawa Czocher have a long-standing personal relationship that first resulted in a musical collaboration in 2015. In their new album they combine their classical musical approaches with an ever-curious interest in other forms of music and art, without restricting themselves to genres. The theme of connectedness, both personal and musical, runs like a red thread through their compositions.

DISAPPEARING BERLIN is a performance and music program produced by Schinkel Pavillon that explores the potentiality of a city in change. Some of Berlin’s iconic and disappearing architectures and spaces will temporarily transform through performative and sonic experiences. After more than a year of repetitive lock-downs and isolation, the program will celebrate the moment of live encounters between performance, architecture, and audience. The city of Berlin will become a stage where the invited artists investigate urban transformation processes.
