Can anything disappear if it hasn’t been remembered, seen or acknowledged?

The city of Berlin is known globally as one that holds the promise of queer liberation, and queer and trans people from all over the world flock for a taste of this promise. For Black and of color queer people this is the promise that Berlin has never kept. Queer culture  and life in  Berlin is dominated by white figures, leaving no space for queer people of color, for any form of meaningful representation.

In the framework of Disappearing Berlin how do we remember a community that has been made invisible and erased through time and space? How do we trace the broken lines between what is erased, what is unseen and what is unimaginable? What from the  unimaginable arises in the spaces of absence?

It is at the “Green Mango”, a karaoke club located in Schöneberg, that the Kammerqueers invite 2 BPOC queer collectives House of Living Color and Queer Arab Barty  to develop an art of resistance.

Schöneberg was an historically significant area for the gay and lesbian community in Berlin: in the 20th century the area became a space of experimentation and creation for the LGBT community that disappeared through waves of normalization and gentrification.

Together we will create disturbances  built on desire, longing and loss, build collective memories from the ephemeral presence of performance, to map the futurity of a present that doesn’t exist.
